Double Hung Windows Replacement
At Windows By Toll, it is our goal to make replacing your window and doors as stress free as possible.
Our vinyl double-hung windows blend classic and modern characteristics, providing an appealing look for your home.
Double hung windows contain a pair of operating sashes that move up and down to allow for ventilation from the top of the window, the bottom, or both. Single hung windows have a lower operating sash for ventilation. Either window is perfect for rooms that face walkways, porches or decks because their sashes do not open outward. Again the only real difference for you is going to be that they can be raised from the bottom or lowered from the top with sashes that tilt in for easy cleaning.
Double Hung Window Installation
You’re going to find double-hung windows in just about every home you go into. A double-hung window consists of “top and bottom” upper and lower sashes that slide vertically over each other in separate grooves. Springs, balances, or weather stripping allow the window to remain in place anywhere you want it.
We cannot stress the importance of quality installation services. Could you do it yourself? Sure, you could probably eventually figure it out. But it’s going to take a lot longer, a lot more work, and the chances of installation going as well as it would with us doing it, are low. Since windows are such a sizeable investment we feel your best bet is to leave all of that in the hands of the professionals.
What’s the difference between double-hung and single-hung windows?
The most significant difference between double-hung and single-hung windows is that with double-hung windows, both the upper and lower windows can move. Only the lower window can move in a single-hung window while the upper is sealed in place.
Aside from the mechanics of the window, a big determining factor for most clients is the cost. Single-hung windows are less expensive than double-hung windows. Other pros of the single-hung window include less installation cost, energy efficiency, and more security with only one lock. Single-hung windows can also be more energy efficient than double-hung windows. Cheap double-hung windows cause drafts when poorly installed, which is why you should order from Windows By Toll. We have high-quality double and single-hung windows.
Double-hung windows can offer better ventilation to a home by opening the top and bottom of the windows. They can also provide a layer of safety for families with children and pets, as double-hung windows can keep the lower window closed while opening the top one. And because the windows tilt, they are easier to clean than single-hung windows.
Mixing and matching these windows isn’t a bad idea. Some clients opted to use single-hung windows on the first and double-hung windows on the second floors. Double-hung windows will help your home get a lot of ventilation, cooling down rooms and airing out damp ones.
Those are the most significant differences between the two. There is no perfect answer to which is better or not. It comes down to what you want, and the window designs you like. Why Choose Double Hung Windows?
Some of the top reasons why double-hung windows are popular is because they are energy-efficient, low maintenance, and look great. Double-hung windows have a number of benefits over the single variety in particular:
- Versatility – Because both the upper and lower sashes are operable, you can choose to have them open in any configuration you want.
- Easy maintenance – Because the sashes on our double-hung windows can be tilted inwards, cleaning is easier than ever before. No more struggling to reach that one spot on the outside of your window and risking your health to do so, a new double-hung window is incredibly easy for anyone to maintain.
- Energy efficiency – Our double-hung windows are equipped with a number of energy-efficient features such as two or three panes of glass, argon gas fills, and Low-E glass. Many if not all of our windows are certified by ENERGY STAR®, which means you know for a fact you’re going to be saving some serious energy.
