The windows in your home aren’t just for show. They play a key role in regulating the air quality and comfort level in your home and are also responsible for providing your home with enough daylighting. It’s not easy to tell if the windows are nearing the end of their life span, but there are some signs to watch out for.
Windows by Toll, your windows and doors company, shares the three warning signs that it’s time to replace your windows.
Sticking Windows
This is the most obvious sign and one that you can test for yourself. If you’re having trouble opening or closing the window, it’s a clear sign that it has developed balance issues throughout its operating life span. Internal rotting and rust can also cause this problem.
Condensation Between the Glass Panes
Condensation on the window glass is actually normal and is due to rapidly changing temperatures instead of a fault in the glass or the windows. What’s worrisome is if the condensation appears between the glass panes. It’s a sign that the glass seal has already failed and it will become worse as time passes.
Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes to condensation between the glass. If your window is starting to show this, then it’s time to schedule a replacement and new window installation before the seal failure starts affecting the rest of your home.
Damaged Frames
There are cases in which it’s possible to repair a damaged window, such as when it needs new weatherstripping or its hardware needs fixing. The same can’t be said for frames that are warped, broken, or damaged by the weather.
While the window is still operable, damage to the frame can cause all sorts of problems ranging from loose glass to drafts entering your home. Damaged frames are also more prone to shrinking over time, which can make drafts even worse.
